Finding Purpose

Do you feel lost or broken? Do you find yourself entrapped by negative cycles of thought and addiction? Are you feeling like you do not recognize yourself, are disconnected from relationships, or frustrated spiritually? These feelings
and thoughts disorient our lives from the beauty and truth around us, clouding our sense of purpose, worth, and Identity.

My core desire is to co-labor with you toward healing, reconnection, and fulfillment in your life context. I want to hear your goals, equip, and support you as you reframe your past, contend with your present struggles, and align yourself toward a more vibrant tomorrow.

How I started in therapy...

My trajectory toward counseling is a lifelong arc that began more formally as I pursued an undergraduate degree. I sought to find the intersection of two parts of me in my vocation: A love of science and a love of helping others. At first, this was in the biological sciences, which then moved to education, at which point, after graduating and spending a short time teaching, I landed in counseling.

While studying biology, with the intention of medicine, I found that I wanted to be a part of more relationally engaged, formative experiences with whoever I was serving. This realization led me to consider education, where I began finding more of what I was searching for. It was during my time studying to become a teacher that I underwent counseling for the first time, and it was life-changing, yet I did not consider it for myself.

After I graduated and began to teach, I found that when I had one-on-one conversations with my students, I felt whole, both in myself and vocationally in calling. Following the experience of helping students and receiving my own counseling, I applied for the clinical mental health counseling program at Denver Seminary. Ever since I applied to the program, and now years later, the calling for this vocation has remained ever present and ever sweet.

My Life Verse:

  • “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”
    Psalms 27:13-14

My Education and Training:

  • Master of Arts (Current Internship) Clinical Mental Health Counseling – Denver Seminary, Littleton, CO
  • Bachelor of Science in Education – Arkansas State University, Jonesboro, AR

When I am not doing therapy...

Colorado has been a wonderful place for my hobbies and delights! When I am not counseling, I can be found on a hiking trail, on the golf course, or attending one of the beautiful music-filled evenings at the Colorado Symphony.

Many parts of Colorado are saturated in beauty and mystery, two things I heartily believe are vital to dote upon for a flourishing life. I aim to get out and experience it as often as possible, either in solitude or in community with friends and church family.

Traveling and missions are a large part of my life, shaping me in innumerable ways. Whenever there is an opportunity for driving or flying to serve or explore, I am always ready to go.

What is it like to work with me?

First and foremost, the whole process is about you, and I hope to reflect that in the warmth and care of my service and advocacy. I would consider it an honor to provide you with the best resources and approaches possible for the achievement of your unique goals.

My approaches generally are psychoeducational (engaging the head), narrative (engaging the heart), experiential /grounding (engaging the whole self: head, heart, body, and spirit).

My areas of passion include depression, anxiety, addiction, relationships, spirituality/faith concerns, health/illness concerns, and life-transitions.

What to expect...

Upon first contact, we will schedule a short 10 to 15-minute phone call to discuss some of your goals and needs for counseling and determine whether I would be a good fit for helping you towards those goals.

Our first session will be, in large part, spent setting the foundation of the therapeutic relationship, which establishes a safe and generative environment for mental health to spring from. Integral and interwoven throughout the first session will be hearing more of your story and experiences. This is also a great time to voice any questions or curiosities you may have about the counseling process or my approaches to counseling. My goal is for your experience to be as non-confusing as possible.

Another goal of mine is to work myself out of a job. I want to partner with you to foster the skills and rhythms in your life that promote autonomy and joy. Then, as we see you reach sustained and regular achievements, we can explore less frequent check-in sessions and, eventually, part ways, our fitting end for your continued wholeness of being.

Is now the right time for therapy?

The invitation is always open. If you are still determining if this is the right time, come and see. If you are sure now is your time, come and let’s begin. If you have the smallest of desires for therapy, why not check it out and see how great an impact you can make on your life?

As a former therapy skeptic and now a therapist in training, I know therapy can be a very good thing, having received it first myself. If you have not received therapy before, I encourage you to consider taking the first step. Perhaps you feel like you have tried therapy many times before, and nothing has changed; I encourage you to take one more step.

It begins with a small step. You are here now. Let’s go on a journey.
